Data Loggers, Recorders and Remote Monitoring

A logging system combines sensors, signal processing, a clock, memory, software and sometimes remote communication. Each component can affect the meaning and continuity of the record.

The interval should capture the fastest meaningful process change without creating unusable data. A long interval can miss excursions, while a very short interval does not improve accuracy if the sensor is poor or misplaced.

Assign each logger and sensor to a defined location or product. Chamber corners, doorways, return air and product cores can report different conditions, so the decision determines the correct placement.

Remote alarms can shorten response time, but communication failure, muted notifications and unclear escalation can leave an excursion uncontrolled. Alarm acknowledgement is not the same as corrective action.

Clock synchronisation, units, configuration, user access, export format, backup and protection from deletion or editing support a defensible record. Gaps and configuration changes should remain visible.

Check sensor accuracy, battery, communications and data retrieval at planned intervals. Review trends and excursions rather than using the logger merely as an archive after the batch is complete.
