Surface Slime, Stickiness and Film
A wet, tacky, greasy or slimy surface layer caused by condensation, deposits, excessive humidity, surface flora or spoilage.
Sticky, greasy, wet and slimy are not interchangeable. Condensed water, a protein film, rendered fat and microbial slime can feel similar while having very different causes.
High humidity, condensation, weak drainage and stagnant surface air can prevent normal surface drying and leave a persistent wet or tacky film.
Fat-out, purge, casing treatment, surface washing and incomplete drying before packaging can create tackiness without primary microbial spoilage.
Yeasts, bacteria and mixed surface flora can produce slime, odour, gas or discolouration. Appearance alone cannot identify the organism or its safety significance.
Record onset, odour, colour, chamber location, humidity, condensation, package condition, pH and storage temperature. Compare affected and normal units and retain samples when microbiology is needed.
Correct moisture, airflow, hygiene, formulation or packaging according to the demonstrated mechanism. Do not treat washing or wiping as proof that contaminated or spoiled product is safe.
