Presses, Moulds, Racks and Hanging Systems

Reusable frames, forms, nets, presses, sticks, racks and hanging devices that shape, restrain, carry or space cured products during processing and handling.

Functions and types

Moulds and presses define shape or contact; nets and sleeves restrain expansion; hooks, loops and smoke sticks suspend product; racks and trolleys move many units as one load. These are process-contact systems, not passive furniture. Geometry, material, surface finish, load rating, spacing and orientation influence product dimensions, drainage, airflow and handling damage.

Selection and food contact

Hardware must suit product weight, acidity, salt, temperature, humidity, cleaning chemicals and mechanical load. Food-contact suitability and corrosion resistance should be documented for the intended use. Wire ends, cracked coatings, damaged welds and absorbent surfaces can create foreign-material or hygiene hazards. Replacement parts should preserve the original fit and rated performance.

Loading and spacing

A rack’s physical capacity can exceed its process capacity. Product spacing must allow the validated heat, smoke, cooling or drying path around representative items, including dense and boundary positions. Contact between products can create pale areas, retained moisture or slow cooling. Load diagrams should define product count, orientation, stick spacing, shelf use and permitted mixed loads.

Presses, moulds and restraint

Pressure and restraint affect geometry, purge, contact and heat transfer. A set force or closure position does not guarantee equal product pressure when raw dimensions vary. Mould fill, liners, drainage, lid position and press cycle need verification. Excessive pressure can force brine or fat, distort structure or overload closures; insufficient pressure can leave voids and weak shape.

Identity and records

Racks, sticks and moulds should carry or link to batch identity through loading, processing, unloading and rework. Where location affects exposure, rack and position may be part of the process record. Counts should reconcile with filler or packaging records. Products moved, re-hung, returned or separated after a fault require traceable treatment rather than informal transfer.

Cleaning and inspection

Overlaps, hinges, hollow sections, wheel assemblies, hooks, netting tools and press interfaces can retain product and condensate. Cleaning procedures should define disassembly, orientation, drainage, inspection and dry storage. Before use, check welds, fasteners, wheels, locks, hooks, sticks, liners and contact surfaces. Damage that could shed material or lose a load requires removal from service.

Handling and safety

Loaded racks can tip, roll or exceed floor and lift limits. Powered presses create crush zones and stored hydraulic or pneumatic energy. Controls should cover rated load, centre of gravity, wheel locks, door thresholds, slopes, lifting aids, protective footwear and exclusion zones. Maintenance and access inside a press require controlled isolation and blocking against movement.

Acceptance and faults

Uneven colour, wet contact marks, slow cooling, distorted shape, broken loops, rack instability or metal damage should be treated as process evidence. The response should identify affected positions and product, inspect the hardware and assess whether the validated load pattern was maintained. Moving product to a new rack does not erase prior exposure or restore a missed process.
